Abstract:

a:4:{s:10:"Background";s:381:"Infertility with an incidence of about 15% has been considered one of the major burdens on the community and has even been a threat to the continuity of the family life. One of the most prevalent causes of women infertility is ovarian causes particularly PCOS. The objective of this study was to determine the outcome of IVF & ET in women with PCOS in comparison with tubal factor.";s:19:"MaterialsAndMethods";s:616:"Material and Methods: This historical cohort study was performed from 2000 to 2002, in Royan Institute. Our cases consisted of 33 patients with PCOS (without any other causes of infertility) who failed standard ovulation induction treatment with clomiphen citrate (≥6 cycles) and had undergone 33 cycles of IVF & ET. Control group consisted of 76 patients with only tubal factor infertility. Our study was performed during the first cycle of IVF in two groups, using long protocol with Buserelin (GnRHa and HMG). IVF and ET cycle characteristics were compared using student’s t-test, χ2 and Fisher's exact test.";s:7:"Results";s:520:"The results of this research showed that a statistically significant difference existed in mean age and incidence of OHSS between the two groups. But there were no statistically significant differences in duration of follicular phase, the duration of GnRHa use up to onset of HMG, cyst number after using GnRHa, the percentage of cyst aspiration, HMG ampule consumption, retrieved oocyte, number of embryo per patient, embryo transfer per patient, cycle cancellation and pregnancy rate per embryo transfer in two groups.";s:10:"Conclusion";s:262:"The result of this study showed that IVF/ET can be a successful treatment in PCOS patients resistant to other usual treatments and that hormonal disturbance of PCOs patients had no significant effect on IVF/ET outcome in comparison to patients with tubal factor.";}

Comparison of In Vitro Fertilization/Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection Cycle Outcome in Patients with and without Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Modified Poisson Regression Model

Objective Polycystic ovary syndrome is a frequent condition in women of reproductive age with prevalence rate of 5-10%. This study purposed to determine the relationship between polycystic ovary syndrome and the outcome of assisted reproductive treatment (ART) cycle in Tehran, Iran. MaterialsAndMethods In this historical cohort study, 996 infertile women were included in the study between Janua...

Comparison of IVF/ICSI outcome in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome or tubal factor infertility.

BACKGROUND One of the recognized treatment options for patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Fears are however sometimes raised concerning the likely outcome of treatment in such patients compared with their counterparts with tubal factor infertility. OBJECTIVE To compare the IVF/ICSI performance in women w...

Metabolic Syndrome in Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in Iran

Background The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been studied in different populations, but their results were so controversial regarding Iranian women. These controversial data indicated the need for more investigation of MetS characteristics in PCOS patients in our population. So this study aimed to evaluate the clinical and laboratory characteris...

Effect of Laparoscopic Ovarian Drilling on Outcomes of In Vitro Fertilization in Clomiphene-Resistant Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Objective Recently the laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD) has been used as a surgical treatment for ovulation in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), although its mechanism and outcomes are still unclear. This study was undertaken to evaluate the in vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes in clomiphene-resistant women with PCOS who were treated with...
